Today, we are touring the Post at the Trading Post in Kjerringøy, Norway. This building was one of my favorites, besides the BIG house of Anna Elisabeth…….. I could just imagine all those fisherman, cold and hungry, returning from waters farther North with their herring catches and ready to make a round or two in the Trading Post. I imagine the liquor section was their first stop……….it would be mine. The Trading Post is on the left and one of the boarding houses is on the right.

You can also see that there is no water here now. I do not know whether this is due to the summer months, the tide, global warming or what. But, at some point one could bring their boats up to the dock.

You just can’t escape the remoteness or the beauty here………….

Now, let’s go inside…….This is one of those spots that you have to look at every nook and cranny to take it all in! I could have spent a week in this place! They wanted to give you a feel of what was sold here in the heyday, but had items you could buy now, as well. Remember, this trading post would have been equal to CostCo or some other big box store, as it was the only store in the area! So, it would have a little of everything! There were items for the kitchen………..

Here is the stove that kept it cosy and warm! Just hang your wet mittens here! Find a new lantern or a basket or two………….

In this area we find the soaps and brushes and pomades…….the cleaning items, personal and industrial……..

I call this area the Library! Get your news here! Read all about it! Next to the Library, there are shelves of cotton fabric……..

This is the liquor store with a bar and all……..step on up!

There is stuff everywhere!

There were homemade hearts………..I liked the woven stick hearts the best!

and mittens……..

There is a section for candles and a quick kindling supply!

This is the Tea Room………

I would say you must have rain gear for those rainy, blustery days!

There were probably rolled smokes or pipe tobacco too. And, a scale to weigh it all…………

and of course, like every store of any generation, the candy can be found at the check out…………..

This is our view going outdoors………..looking one way ………

and this way……….

This had to be a very busy and bustling place with all the local fisherman coming in with their catches and the big ships unloading their goods and reloading with dried or smoked fish and heading back South. Their are many more buildings to see, to realize all the work that was done here…….see you tomorrow in another spot!
