Six On Saturday: From Russia With Love

Good morning SOS’ers! It’s been a while since I posted here, sometimes life just gets busy! But, this morning we are back touring in St Petersburg, Russia, just one of the stops on our Baltic Cruise! What gardens and flowers will we find here? First, let’s take a look around the Hermitage, a museum of art and culture and the second-largest art museum in the world. In 1764, Empress Catherine the Great acquired a large collection of paintings from a Berlin merchant and built several buildings to showcase her collection! More about the Hermitage and St Petersburg in future posts! Today, we’re just looking for gardens!

and a look back at the Palace from the gardens……… Quite the place don’t you think?

Every garden should have a fountain! Or several!

I really liked the lavender-mauve roses!

As I rode along in the bus I tried to get some quick snaps of some of the planters along Nevsky Avenue, so you could get a feel of the city streets…..  This couple is enjoying themselves too……..Love is all around!

  3. The first garden shot is exquisite! I guess I still think of Russia in term of the old Soviet Union — cold, bare piazzas, no color, certainly no gardens — so I am surprised. Lately I’ve been watching HBO’s “Catherine the Great” on Monday nights. The vistas are so grand that my eyes can hardly taken it all in. I need still photographs!

    1. I have been watching Catherine the Great too! We had mixed reactions to our time in Russia. My hubby loved it , but I did not cozy up to it. More about that in posts to come! I am so far behind in my posts! Been busy!
