Six on Saturday at Biltmore House, Asheville, NC

We have had a few “outings” this month. One, was to the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC. I always wanted to see the house and grounds at Christmas when everything would be decked out for the holidays. Buying our tickets six months in advance, you deal with the weather you get that day! Fortunately,  we had a beautiful warm day almost in the 70’s! This is one of the premier properties in the United States with over four acres of floor space in the 250 room, chateau-like home; including 35 bedrooms, 43 bathrooms and sixty-five fireplaces! George Vanderbilt built the home as his summer residence, when he was single. However, over the six year period it took to build the home he became engaged and this became one of the Vanderbilt estate homes. There will be another longer post (so stay tuned to find out more) about the Vanderbilt Estate, but here is my #SOS!

Every chateau needs a lion or two to guard the front door, don’t you think?

This is just one end of the dining room that seats a bazillion………those stone fireplaces are about ten feet across and the are four of them across the back wall. One just can not imagine the size of the rooms!

Outside we found some holly!

The Estate includes many different shopping areas, restaurants and hotels. It was a beautiful fall day with fall colors and winter decorations all blended together!

All the doors of different venues were fabulously wreathed!

Since Asheville is in the mountains there had to be an antler or two!

It takes the staff over six weeks to decorate the estate for Christmas! I can believe it………it is just magical!

Won’t you join us with your SOS?

The instructions for SOS are easy. The photos can be flowers, vegetables, a garden design, whatever, as long as it’s garden related and posted on Saturday!  So, it’s six photos . Of Gardens. On Saturday. Easy Peasy. To see all the SOS’s look at  SIX ON SATURDAY, hosted by the Propagator, to check out all of them each Saturday! See you next week in another spot!

  1. What a festive six! I love the Christmas wreaths. I’ve always promised myself I would attempt to make one. Maybe next year 🙂

    1. I know! There are so many ways to make a swag or wreath! The “in” look this year seems to be black plaid ribbon! I’m going to try and find some after the holidays!

      2. Who knows, but it looks very nice on all the holiday wreaths! I will post photos of them in another holiday post later this week. I have a question about your blog this week and mildew. Are you spraying MILK on your plants? The post said neat milk and I have never heard of that…….

      3. Neat milk as opposed to watered down milk. some people recommend 50/50 water/milk. but as i used semi-skimmed it is already watered down. Ho hum… piglet logic 🙂
