Today for Thursday Doors we are visiting Comayagua, a city in the Honduras, some 50 miles northwest of Tegucigalpa on the highway to San Pedro Sula.  The city is noted for its wealth of Spanish Colonial architecture and the central square reveals The Cathedral of St Mary, in the heart of the town. Built in the 17th Century, the Cathedral is ornamented with ancient artwork and the tower clock is recognized for being the oldest working clock of its type in the world!  The Cathedral is considered one of the most beautiful cathedrals in the country. As we arrive in the city notice all the flat, flat roofs of the houses!

Before we go to the cathedral, let’s check out some beautiful doors! All this beautiful COLOR!

The weather is beautiful isn’t it?

Aren’t these fantastic colors? And I loved the little hacienda inside with the tiled roof! His and Hers!

Now this is the sampler plate! Lobster, steak, fish, rice and big, big roasted potatoes! All for $14.00 US!

In the center of town is the Central Plaza, where everything is focused. Here are the restaurants, shopping and the Cathedral of St Mary. You enter through one of the brightly painted gates.

Here is the Cathedral of St Mary, sitting majestically behind a fountain that was not working!

Now watch your head, we’re going up to the bell tower!

This entry width is only as wide as a small man’s shoulders! Notice how steep the steps are? And they added concrete slabs to reinforce them! Turn sideways and take BIG GIANT STEPS! The Featured Photo to the left is the view down the steps!

And we get to the Bells! Take time to take a breather! What great views from all four sides of the tower, each with a different set and size of bell.

And this is how you ring the bells……. Turn the crank! What strength that must have taken!

Today a clock keeps time instead of the bells.  Here are the working parts of the clock. The oldest working clock in the Americas!
