Thursday Doors: Shopping in Bodrum, Turkey

We’re taking a break from the amphitheater, castle, and the museum to go shopping in the Old Town Bodrum Bazaar. Here, shopping consists of new shops in an outdoor setting. Remember the hatches in the columns to insert coverings for the walkways in Ancient Ephesus? That is still done today, to keep the heat off the pavement and provide some shade for the shoppers. Let’s look around…..

Here, you can shop for every bead or bangle.. or buy a finished doodad……..I’m not sure of the heads………Maybe, it so you will watch your head? Or, at least look up!

But, it’s next door to the Hookah Shop. I think the hookah is really big for a souvenir, but what do I know.

They have a trellis canopy-roof here, instead of the tent style covering. I like this.

You see very stylish clothing and shoes in the windows and doorways.

In case you need a little snack it would be hard to choose in the Turkish Delight store. Get it fresh or packaged.

Or a tin or jar of a little something. This would be easier, I think, to take as a souvenir.

The area above the shops were very attractive too. Many of these looked like museum galleries for advertisements. Here they are showing off their jewelry.

Above the “Rose Silk,” a women’s clothing store, I thought it had the look of France……..

I like the way they bricked it.

Above the “Real Leather” shop was a nice mural, with a fairy godmother and her handbag.  You probably needed a fairy godmother to afford one. I especially liked the orange luggage though.

You wouldn’t want to miss out on the sportswear! It is next to the entrance for the Sports Club! Easy to find! A guy needs his team shirt! This man just can’t decide which one he wants!

One last look at Bodrum’s Grand Bazaar…..and it was like a bazaar, with passages down this way and that.

and afterwards the dog was too pooped to shop any more!

It looks like a wonderful place to shop. I love the trellis canopy-roof. The shops all look inviting. Did you buy anything interesting? The dog looks like how I feel after shopping.
