Six On Saturday: Vigeland, Oslo, Norway

Helloooooooooo 2022! I thought I would start off the New Year in the Vigeland Garden in Oslo, Norway. There will be more posts about this famous Sculpture Garden, but today I’m just getting back into the swing of things! My WordPress site has a new format (UGH) and it will take me several posts before I truly figure it out! (Another groan!) But, you can’t go wrong with a flower or two! And, I only need six today, right?

When you get to Vigeland the first thing you hear are the sounds of laughter and merriment from the playground! Is there anything better than a child playing? They know simple fun! There are kids and parents everywhere……….The grounds are open 24/7…………This is the place to be! It’s in the perfect setting too!

Leaving the playground, the garden begins with a sculpture of Gustav Vigeland nestled in the flowers! More about him up close and personal in future posts!

Gustav Vigeland (1869-1943) Sculptor

Vigeland Sculpture Park is partially integrated with Frogner Park and encompasses eighty acres. You may visit day or night. The architectural setting includes expansive lawn grounds and long straight avenues bordered by maple trees.

I really liked the contrast of the many flowers, all jumbled together…………..

Near the ground I find ……. one of my favorites! I love dark, almost black, colored foliage!

And the dahlias always catch my eye too! Isn’t this one a stunner!

Another One!

Ok, a start to a New Year of SOS! In the next few days I will be sharing with you the ends and outs of this beautiful park……You won’t want to miss it! There are only eighty acres to cover with 214 sculptures and more than 758 figures all modeled in full size! I have a photo of nearly all of them! Ha Ha! But don’t worry I won’t show them all!

If you are new to Six On Saturday, the instructions are easy. The photos can be flowers, vegetables, a garden design, whatever, as long as it’s garden related and posted on Saturday!  So, its six photos. Of Gardens. On Saturday. Easy Peasy. To see all the SOS’s look at  SIX ON SATURDAY, hosted by the Propagator, to check out all of them each Saturday! See you next week! Cady

    1. Oh I know the feeling of re-newing my focus! It had been so long since my last post and WordPress has gone to that silly BLOCK posting style and set up! It took me forever to do that six photo post! But, I worked on another post for tomorrow! Happy New Year to you! What have you been up to?

  5. Welcome back and happy New Year. I’m looking forward to seeing more of this garden as my s-i-l and b-i-l will be moving to Norway next year. They’ll be closer to Stavanger, but who knows? We might make it to Oslo sometime.

    1. Janet, you will have to share my posts on Norway with them! I have several! Of all the places, outside the US, Norway is the one country I could live and be happy in! The people are friendly, the scenery is gorgeous and it is so clean! And appears to be very safe! Oslo is very expensive, but most European countries/and big cities are……… We have not been in Stavanger, but we were in Haugesund not toooooo far away. One of the places I want to go back to (well I’d go back to them all) but I really enjoyed the size of Kristiansand and the look of it! It really looked like a nice place to raise a family! Kristiansand was in a great location with a very nice shopping area, big church in town and great condos on the water! Do your in-laws speak Norwegian? I have studied with Duolingo and I can read it well and speak ok. I can understand what they say too. They might want to look into that as well! It’s free! Good talking with you again! I will catch up with your blog!

    1. Ju-Lyn, good to hear from you! I have missed international travel soooooooo much. If things go well (who knows with Covid and the state of things from day to day ) but fingers crossed, we are traveling for 3 months this year! We will be in Singapore by middle of December if nothing gets cancelled! We are also going to Thailand, and India AND the Ukraine if war does not break out! I will catch up with all your posts to see what you have been up to! Happy New Year! Cady

How exciting! I hope you get to make all of your trips – if you make it to Singapore & are inclined, let’s have a walk together!

I hear you on missing international travel – we are very much missing our London family & miss being with them yet another Christmas.

I made it to Vigeland a few years ago. Visited there while on a Baltic Cruise.

    1. Yes, that’s how we got there too and then stayed another week in Oslo! Loved it! Do you still cruise? We have four cruises booked this year to make up for last year’s mess. We are supposed to leave Istanbul in May and one of the stops is the Ukraine! I have no idea yet what the plans are for re-routing or what. We have four stops in the Black Sea alone!
