Today for Dr B’s Challenge Your Camera…….the Theme is Sports……

In late July, 2006, we were making our way from the south of France  to Neuweiler-Les-Saverne in Alsace, to do research on my GGrandmother, who had left there in 1846 with her mother, father, sisters and brothers to immigrate to America. Well that is a story in itself……

However, on the drive there we kept running into road blocks……..we were far off the beaten path and the detours took us to smaller and smaller roads……..until the road was no longer even on the map…..this was back in the old days when we didn’t have GPS in the rental cars….. We came to a HALT when the road was entirely blocked off with the big cement road block thingys and cars were parked everywhere! We had no idea what was going on, but we decided to park our car too and make our way up the closed off road……

When we got into the town this was the scene! OH MY GOSH, they were waiting for the bikers of the Tour De France! We quickly found us a spot and waited and waited and waited………..

Then the POLICEMAN started blowing his whistle and telling us to stand back……..

Some support cars and officials came through………

And then in a WHOOSH, the bikers came! Oh, WERE THEY FAST! One second you see them and then they are gone!

Everyone was clapping and calling out their favorite teams and riders!

Then came the end support cars…….and media……

And the helicopter ………..

and it was over in seconds! But, we have a wonderful memory of the Tour De France, 2006!
