Challenge Your Camera: Sport

Today for Dr B’s Challenge Your Camera…….the Theme is Sports……

In late July, 2006, we were making our way from the south of France  to Neuweiler-Les-Saverne in Alsace, to do research on my GGrandmother, who had left there in 1846 with her mother, father, sisters and brothers to immigrate to America. Well that is a story in itself……

However, on the drive there we kept running into road blocks……..we were far off the beaten path and the detours took us to smaller and smaller roads……..until the road was no longer even on the map…..this was back in the old days when we didn’t have GPS in the rental cars….. We came to a HALT when the road was entirely blocked off with the big cement road block thingys and cars were parked everywhere! We had no idea what was going on, but we decided to park our car too and make our way up the closed off road……

When we got into the town this was the scene! OH MY GOSH, they were waiting for the bikers of the Tour De France! We quickly found us a spot and waited and waited and waited………..

Near Dachstein, France

Then the POLICEMAN started blowing his whistle and telling us to stand back……..

The Police

Some support cars and officials came through………

The Support Cars

And then in a WHOOSH, the bikers came! Oh, WERE THEY FAST! One second you see them and then they are gone!

The Flash of Riders!
The Flash of Riders!

Everyone was clapping and calling out their favorite teams and riders!

The Flash of Riders!

Then came the end support cars…….and media……

The Motorcycles

And the helicopter ………..

The Helicopter!

and it was over in seconds! But, we have a wonderful memory of the Tour De France, 2006!

I hope you have enjoyed my SPORT!

Won’t you join Dr B and The Buddha Walks Into a Wine Bar for the latest challenge? He writes………..

Photography is one of those activities we can all have fun with and blog about, at home, in the garden, walking the streets, in the countryside, in a museum or gallery ….. the opportunities are endless. You can be a wizard or a novice with a camera or a smartphone, or a crafty manipulator with Photoshop, or Lightroom or Snapseed. It really doesn’t matter how you create your image because in the end it is a work of art, a creation, a memory, and possibly a source of inspiration to others. Blogging your images is easy too, few words needed, let the picture tell the story. And, very importantly in these strange times, it can give us a distraction, a positive focus, connect us with others, and build a community via our blogs. So why not join in, start snapping and sharing with me.

Each week Dr B is selecting a single theme to point his camera at or display a few photos from his collection as a way to brighten up the week as we enter a new year, which we all hope will be brighter than the last. If you would like to join him in #challengeyourcamera then here’s what to do:

1. Follow him to discover the weekly theme he has chosen.
2. Select a few photos related to the week’s theme
3. Post your own photos that week, any day you like.
4. Include a caption with each photo so we know what/where it is
5. Include a ping back/link to his blog in your post so that he is notified, can follow you back and can appreciate and comment on your choices.
6. Include the tag #challengeyourcamera

1. He will follow you back
2. He will encourage other posters to follow you
3. He will list each blogger in my weekly post

That’s a good story and description of a day out. You “cheated” me I was expecting cricket and curling 😂. You’ll find a similar story like this in my wine book where we came to a road blocked with barriers and the French Foreign Legion, Chateauneuf du Pape wine festival!

Perfectly captured! I’ve only watched snippets of Tour de Yorkshire on TV, and my Dad would watch cyclists anywhere in Poland for the pleasure of seeing his homeland. We do have our miniature version here in the Algarve though, and what a hullabaloo it is! Exactly as you illustrate- larger than life, for about 2 minutes 🙂 🙂

  4. We now get the majority of bike races on a Sports Channel just for the professional bikers! I love watching it for the scenery and the descriptions of the towns and villages……And, then I have my favorite cyclists as well!

What a wonderful surprise. Everyone should see the Tour de France, at least once in their lifetime. It’s such a wonderful spectacle.

When we lived in France, the Tour passed our house no fewer than three times. Such fun, so thanks for the memories.

2006 was the year I cycled the famous Alpe d’Huez with friends on the morning that the race arrived through several hours later… I wrote about it on a blog somewhere… Gotta go searching now.
At great speed I climbed, higher & higher, faster & faster.

How exciting, and how serendipitous! I once saw the Tour of Britain riders go through central London and I know what you mean about it being all over in a whoosh! I think you did a great job to capture several photos of them passing at that speed 🙂
