We’re starting out in the park today and going door hunting from there! Oslo is chock full of parks and statues in the historic and theater areas……
This fellow was across the street from our hotel in the Theater District. Per Aabel was a popular Norwegian comedian and actor. After studying ballet in London he went on to attend the Academy of Fine Arts in Paris. He then studied theater in Vienna, before making his stage debut in 1931. After his retirement from the stage, he went on to be a television entertainer and storyteller. His statue, by Norwegian sculptor, Nina Emilie Sundbye, was unveiled outside the stage entrance of the National Theater in 1999. Each year, The Per Aabel Honorary Award, a smaller statuette, is given to a talented Norwegian actor or actress on Aabel’s birthday, April, 25th.
And, I knew you would want to see the fountain up close……….it reminds me of a peacock’s plume!
We then walked to the Oslo Cathedral……..
and went in this fancy door……….
to the inner door……..
and looked up to see another door……….white walls, and a very intricate and colorful ceiling……..
Back on the ground level was this fake-sorta door to one side……..
There were three doors around the back of the church: small, smaller and smallest…..always walk all around a church building, if you can……..you never know what you will find………
Is this a small chapel? Reminds me of a dovecote……….minus the nest holes and pigeons……..
with an angel door…………..I don’t know, those three angels at the top are similar to birds, aren’t they? I’m still thinking dovecote at one time!
But, I was curious about this attached building at the back……are they apartments for the clergy, storage buildings, shops?
And, this little building was there too and it had my favorite doors today!

I really like Norwegian architecture, especially that which goes back to the days of the Hanseatic League, often in wood with bright colours especially orange. We haven’t been to Oslo but had a Norwegian cruise a few years back up to the Arctic Circle with a day stop off at Bergen. A stunning port area with architecture you could spend days and days exploring and photographing.

I especially loved the fountain which at first glance I took to be a white peacock. Absolutely beautiful.

I was keeping track of my favorite, as one replaced the other, but then I realized there are too many nice ones to choose. I do like your favorite though, especially the upper door on that little building.

I especially like the cathedral and its chapel. The inside door leads probably into the confessional, but that leaning wall panel on the left side disconcerts me.

I love that ‘look up’ green door in the Cathedral. 🙂 🙂 Not sure about the dovecot theory. A number of the churches in Poland had a similar shape.
