Today SOS’ers, we are exploring together, another garden that was on our NGS trail! We are driving down this little back road to West Hoathly. The house was another one, that to most American’s is the perfect cottage in the perfect setting. And, it was BIG!
Just about always in the NGS Garden there is a group of ladies selling tea and cakes……..this is where you can find out a lot about the garden and the gardeners!
A little walk through from one garden vignette to another………..
I think props in the garden is what does it for me………….Here it was the water tap and the barrel………
And here, near the herb garden was the barrel roller…….I don’t know what else to call it……….what is it used for?
I saw many, many, many, clay chimney pots and large jars in the garden…….it is the one thing I would have brought back with me, if I could have!

Fred, I am with you! I have taken photos of frozen snowdrops, gray skies, rain and fog this week and couldn’t go to the Orchid Show/Display that I was supposed to go to, in another state, because black ice was predicted on the roads through the mountains. And us old folks don’t do snow and ice! So, there went my Valentine weekend ! What a bummer! Maybe I’ll get there next month for the tulips and bulbs! Until then, I’m reminding myself of all the lovely gardens I’ve been to!

Beautiful garden! The NGS is such a great scheme – a super chance to nose around other people’s gardens and pinch their ideas, although ours is so small we can’t often imitate what we see elsewhere. That roller is used on lawns to flatten imperfections, smooth the grass, prepare the soil for seeding etc. etc.

Thanks for clarifying the purpose of the lawn roller! I’ve actually seen one in use on an American lawn once years ago.

How many people does it take to care for a garden that lively?

Sel, I literally have hundreds! I know, I know, you don’t want to see ALL of them! But, it also gives me the chance to see a time when we had it sooooooooo good!

That’s a very charming garden. We have one of those rollers abandoned in a corner of our garden. It not longer has a handle and it weighs a ton (probably literally!).
