I have stopped watching the news….I have dropped all social media, except for my blog, which I try to keep to positive vibes…. there are a lot of folks in the world, who are everyday folks, just trying to provide food and shelter and love……….they are trying to make a living…….keep their kids educated and basically just take care of their families, without an agenda. Me too. I think there is more of us…. Just trying to live our lives….. So, I would like to take the time to focus on one person a week to bring us together, to celebrate ordinary folks. We are trying to live our lives under extraordinary circumstances…..

Today, I share the Almond Roaster from Tallinn, Estonia. The best almonds in town! In the Old Town, we could smell the roasting almonds, way before finding this cart!
How could you NOT buy almonds from her! I think of this as an entry level job for teens……something like McDonalds, but the outfit is much more defining! People all over the world are trying to keep their traditions going!

Yes, the almonds were very good! You could buy them plain or with a cinnamon sugar combo! Guess which was my favorite?

I always admire cultures that preserve these traditions but then feel sad how younger generations in the Western world seem as if they only want to destroy our own. Destroy may be too strong a word, but it seems like people seek only negativity from our past.

You’ve taken me straight back to Tallinn with this post – I’d forgotten until now about the smell of roasting almonds that followed me around the Old Town!
I’ll be posting again in response in a day or two. Just one small suggestion – this is such a long name for a challenge. Could we shorten it perhaps to ‘Just one person’???

Sarah, Oh my gosh, you have had some fabulous experiences that I am sure most folks have never had! The woman and her children looked so happy to see you too! What a way to share our similarities……I am glad you asked about their huts too! Meeting and talking to people is what I enjoy the most about traveling!!!! And I think you do too!

I loved how your brought back these memories of the almond seller from Talliin. I was there some years ago and I wonder if they were still doing this. I am glad to see they are. We were there in the depths of winter and they were out there all day selling their almonds. Talliin is a wonderful city and I love how they keep the Hansa traditions going. I am happy to hear from you because I wondered if the vendors did this all year round! I guess in order to make a living at it you would work all year! I looked at your blog and then tried to think of an encounter I’ve had going “on my way” on my travels.I will have to look…..I am such an A personality, have to have everything prepared and stamped way ahead of time, that any glitch would cause me great stress!

Yes I think they might have to do it all year round, as the cruise ships come in all year around. However, they probably are having a very hard time now, without the flow of tourists.
I think that I am a little bit of A personality as I also like to have things prepared and well organized. Going with the flow is something that I have tried to do more as I got older, because I have learnt that almost every time things will invariably work out okay in the end. (It still makes it tricky to deal with though).
Thanks for a fun challenge. It is what inspired me to write that story and link it to the challenge theme.
