Good morning SOS’ers! I have been posting interesting gardens and today, I am revealing what I think it takes to have a beautiful garden in Savannah, Georgia………first I think, is a pink house! The bigger the better………with a Spanish Moss tree as well, the bigger the better! I had never seen neighborhoods with all pastel colored houses before and it is quite charming! It’s like living in a watercolor! But, the pink colors are my favorite!
Many gardens will be long and narrow and enclosed behind a garden wall. Most gardens will be in the shade. You want a nice cool place to sit and drink your sweet tea! There will be lots of potted plants for interest…..
and lots of plants with special interest or pops of color that can cascade over a wall or gate……..
Water in the garden is a must too. This is quite the sculpture don’t you think? It looks like hanging ice! Any kind of water feature makes you feel cooler!
A porch on every level is good, so you can keep an eye on your garden!
Shade, shade and more shade is required! Water in the shade helps too!

Love the gardens but I’ll have to pass on the sweet tea. I do tea every day but I can’t do that! 🙂

Me too! I’m a coffee drinker, so in Savannah I drink water!

McDonald’s evidently sells zillions of gallons of sweet tea a year. Makes me cringe just to think about it! 🙂

We originally had 3 pink cottages in our little hood and as they were sold the folks painted them dreary colors, UGH! We also had one bright poppy red too, long gone. Now, it is gray! When and if, I paint my cottage, it will be pink!

So love your Southern gardens. Our Sierra California foothill climate is too arid and owned by the deer for such a lush escape. (Hot coffee in the morning and cold sorta sweet tea in the afternoon, if you please 😉)

Old Southern gardens, especially in cities like Savannah and Mobile, are the epitome of (well) “old Southern gardens.” On bleak January days, I could immerse myself in your photos here. Pinks are my favorite, too, although blue and yellow for February gardens.

That is a truly gorgeous garden. I guess the climate in Savannah is perfect for growing a lush semi-tropical type of plant.
