There’s Still Room For Some Christmas Cheer!

We had a lot of our traveling plans curtailed this year and who knows if and when we will ever be able to travel again, as we once did……………We added a few shorter state trips to our itinerary this year and that may be the way to go, as the country opens up again in all places. We really enjoy the small towns and Franklin, Tennessee has been on our radar THIS YEAR. It is small and quant and the folks are very welcoming. Unlike many small towns, there is lots of local and customized shopping, plenty of varied restaurants with excellent food, and many overnight stays to choose from. They offer cabins, cottages, hotels and mansions, if you want one. In addition, if a hotel is your choice, their hotels are not the generic brands. They are locally owned and operated. Situated in the beautiful hills of Middle Tennessee, each time we go, we enjoy it more and more! So, without further adieu…….enjoy Christmas in Franklin!

Here is the local map!

Franklin, Tennessee

We enjoyed their window decorations……….the Main Street is still very historic with their pre-Civil War buildings. In fact, this is a great place for the Civil War buff, as there are battlefields here, with “Gone With the Wind,” style homesteads. And many tours are offered………

These two, were my favorite wreaths on the windows of the town shops……one very woodsy and the other very fancy!

Twigs and birch tree sticks were very popular in planters…………

One of my favorite shops in Franklin is Savory and Spice. They make up jars and jars and jars of spice combinations. You select what spice you would like and they bag or bottle it, fresh for you!

Next, we are moving on to the Factory! This is a grouping of four old warehouses that has been converted into a collection of one-of-a-kind shops and coffee and teas shops….. The big Farmers Market is held here also, every Saturday morning……

This is where you could also find a gathering of specialty Christmas trees displayed by different businesses. They were all very different!

This white puff and bubble tree was one of my favorites! My Featured Photo was a Christmas Tree decorated in photos of local Horses and Dogs! How can you not like that?

and this shop just called to me and pulled me in! Could have stayed right here all day!

For our Christmas entertainment we went to the Pucketts Brothers Market in Leipers Fork, Tennessee. Population, not so many, but on everyones list to visit! Pucketts sits in the middle of the small village and serves as the grocery store, gas station, restaurant and local entertainment center. Many of Nashville’s finest country stars have played at, one time or another, at Pucketts!

This says it all…………..

and our  entertainment was, The Deltaz……..Only six or seven tables were set up for eating and the entertainment. It was by reservation only, you wouldn’t want to come all the way out here, to have to turn around and go home! We were at THE FRONT TABLE AND NEAR THE DOOR and it was LOUD! We may be too old for that LOUD! Ha Ha!

Their specialty is barbequed pork. There is a big grill contraption outside the front of Pucketts, where the meat is slowly grilled all day…. You can smell that BBQ a mile away and YUM! I don’t think that rib was quite big enough, do you?

Christmas would not be complete without the decorations and light displays……..this neighborhood was our favorite! Not one house the same as its neighbor! Take a look with us!

This house was one of my favorites…….it had a cabin attached to it!

And this one reminded me of Norway! Looked like they had a little chapel in the back, but it was the garage……..

And you could have a very modern look too!

This was my favorite! It was the North Pole! Complete with special parking in front and all of Santa’s and the Mrs’s laundry hanging to dry on the front porch! All the kids loved it!

  2. We know people who live in Franklin, but I’ve never been there until now. 😉. It’s supposed to be a great place to live but getting pricier as more people move there. Thanks for that last bit of Christmas, although we still have our decorations up and will for some time. Our neighborhood is full of outdoor decorations, too.

    1. Janet, this is the middle class neighborhood! Homes start at 1.5 million ( the older ones and just go higher) It was one of the nicer neighborhoods, that we could visit that was not gated! The fancier neighborhoods are gated…….. The music industry and all the folks that that entails live on big, big, properties with long long, long, long driveways (gated) and a home not to be seen! The small cottage type homes in downtown Franklin proper (some left from the Civil War) are being torn down to make Mega houses in the town……..there are a lot of folks from NY and California moving there. I think the only folks happy about the influx of folks is the people, who live in trailers that have lived there for ever and sit on 5 acre or above land! They are headed to the bank!

    1. Thank you! Are you ready for the New Year? I am a little nervous about it! Too much stuff going on and I’m too old for it! Have a good year and I look forward to your posts!

      1. I think it will be challenging, but we have to keep looking for the little pleasures in life (which we do via the SOS’s & armchair travelling) to help us get through the tough times. It’s the learning about new things and places that provides pleasant distraction from what is going on around the world at the moment. Happy New Year to you too, and keep entertaining us with your lovely and interesting posts of your travel experiences. I love reading them!
