Welcome to Hellesylt, Norway!

We have finally made it here! We are in the world-famous, Unesco listed, most opt photographed fjord in the world! It is a majestic combination of huge cliffs, tumbling waterfalls and deep blue water! I took most of my photos in panoramic view so they might look a tad weird here, but you’ll get the idea of this place. In addition to a few cruise lines on the water, there were other small crafts near us, with their tourists, and helicopters buzzing overhead with their groups. Very busy place in the summer and a boon to the little village of Hellesylt!

Arriving at Hellesyit, we are just dropping off those passengers, who are going to hike to Mt Flo…….then we set sail again to see the spectacular fjord and the Seven Sisters Waterfall.

Here is the Seven Sisters Waterfalls……..the ship does a complete 360 degree turn, so we can see it from every angle and then we go back down the fjord to the small village of Geirangerfjord. The Seven Sisters, although today, I think only three of the sisters showed up, are the 39th tallest waterfall in Norway. The 1350 ft tall waterfall consists of seven separate streams and the tallest one is 820 ft. The legend is the Seven Sisters dance playfully down the mountain. These photos do not give you a perspective of how close you are to either side of the mountains. We could practically reach out and touch them! It was quite the maneuver to turn that ship around!

On the opposite wall of the fjord and directly across from “The Sisters,” is a single waterfall called, “The Suitor.” The Suitor flirts playfully with the sisters from afar, but not too far! He means business!

Returning from the waterfalls it looks like this……….through the narrow passage.

I think I could live in that house, there on the bank………

We have arrived in Geirangerfjord and taking the tender to shore. Wow, look at the road up the hillside!

Here we are…….the official map…….but we have signed up to go to the Herdal Mountain Farm…….it was one of the best visits we had in Norway! I can’t wait to share it with you! See you on the farm next………….

How lovely, a chara. That road up the hill is a bikers delight or nightmare depending on direction! I wonder is there a local club?

“Up the hill”? I was imagining down the hill, zig-zagging all the way.

    1. Yes, It was quite the hill and a narrow road where you had to pull over and slowly creep past the oncoming vehicle! I like to think of Hellesylt, and what they might be doing now. So remote and beautiful!
