or maybe a stroll in the park………. I couldn’t help myself. I had to show more of beautiful Riga, Latvia. The city has turned the OLD MOAT, that surrounded the medieval historic area, into a beautiful little waterway that meanders through the city. The walkways are large on either side and the parks are well tended. What a difference it makes having a green belt right in the heart of the city! It is enjoyed by everyone! You could meet up with friends……..
or row a little boat………….
or take what looked like a Venetian water taxi………
or just stroll the gardens……….
All around the city there were pockets of places to sit and enjoy your surroundings……..
or you could rest among the art work………
or gaze at beautiful lush floral displays………..
or sit in little restaurant gardens and enjoy the day……..

You can see from this photo that the gardens are tucked into the neighborhoods……..maybe there were big, gaping areas left from the war……….so why not fill them with flowers?
I think every city would benefit from gardens (small or large) and green areas (water and parks) in every neighborhood, don’t you? Instead of putting row upon row of housing, let’s add a park here and there! What do you think? Does your city have an intercity garden/park development plan?

You DO love this city, don’t you? But I can see why. It’s gorgeous. I know it’s still early, but I’m pretty sure I see more than six photos here. 🤭🤭😊🥰. Maybe that’s the “-ish” part.

Thanks for another little stroll through Riga. They certainly take their planting seriously,
I don’t live in a city, but a small seaside town. We have areas of grass and planting along the prom, but it is usually only summer bedding. There’s a small park just off a local housing area, that could be made more beautiful than it is. But on the positive side, the local council have established allotments in this area – and the amount of produce that local plot-holder produce each year is quite amazing. Not only that – the people you talk to are happy working on their plots!
It would be good to have more trees and flower beds lining roads though – they bring a real feeling of wellbeing to areas.

We have an allotment at the church in our neighborhood. I decided one year to try my hand at vegetables……..I didn’t know any better and grew all kinds of lettuce. I got lettuce, more lettuce and much more lettuce. I would go up the hill, with my wagon ( I live at a cottage on the bottom of the hill ) and gather all my lettuce and leave it on the doorsteps of my neighbors as I passed by on my way back home. Never plotted up there again!

Seattle, Washington, is quite a walkable city with hanging baskets and parks large and small, even a postage stamp garden or green space tucked in here and there. So is Mobile, Alabama, and Tallahassee, Florida. Yakima not so much, only one downtown park where the homeless hang out, discouraging the rest of us from lingering. Maybe I could move to Latvia?
