I’ve been decorating for Valentine’s Day! Foo-fooing my home for the holidays always puts a smile on my face………….I like to add something here, a little something there, and voila it’s a holiday! This is the little kitchen cupboard…… See anything different about it since Christmas?

Yes, I’ve added a nest and put little pie weights in as eggs! But, that’s not it……….

The Red Christmas Cupboard is now white! In case you missed it when it was red, here is a photo…………..

I love my little chalkboard too….one can never have enough writing spaces!

The best thing about my decorating is, I “Shop My House First.” That means I look through all the items I already have and see how I can create a new look with them. It may be a bowl, or a book, or a plate, or a piece of greenery…. I use my cookbook holder with a new magazine every quarter……It can be whatever you want…… Then I shop Target or HomeGoods for the really inexpensive stuff, the fillers. I like paper muffin cups, they always come in holiday colors and then you can use them too! I always add a little towel for holiday color and to pull it all together….. I bought little plastic X’s and O’s, added my old, old, old angels and snowmen I made year’s ago…… Done! This is what my Bakery Bar looks like for Valentine’s Day…….

For my tablescape, I keep my kitchen island really sparse. I like a big uncluttered cooking area. But, I do have a few place settings there for everyday use. For February, I added the deer plates with just a touch of red. My everyday dishes are white and I mix and match the accessory plate. I do not buy a complete set of anything any more.

And last, but not least………my hallway chalkboard is one of my favorite things in my house. I change it for the seasons too. My ceilings are ten foot high, so up on a ladder I go and hope that first line is somewhat straight. Then down, down, down, until I am on my hands and knees doing that bottom line….. Believe me when I say I work out what I want to put on that board, very carefully, before I ever get to it. I’m not getting any younger!

I hope you have enjoyed seeing a little of the Valentine’s Day Preparation at my house. It definitely puts a smile on my face!

[The best thing about my decorating is, I “Shop My House First.” That means I look through all the items I already have and see how I can create a new look with them] THAT’S EXACTLY HOW I DO IT, TOO! I LIKE RUMMAGING THROUGH MY “DECOR CUPBOARDS” TO DISCOVER THINGS. RATHER LIKE A TREASURE HUNT FOR THINGS I’VE FORGOTTEN ABOUT.

Jo, I have decided in my “OLD AGE WISDOM” that I am going to use all my STUFF! No more saving the good china for company, no more keeping the collectables put up. I’m pulling all the stops and getting everything out! I’m like you when I go looking, I forgot I even had some of the stuff! When we were staying in a villa in Italy one year I could not believe the hand-made, embroidered sheets we slept on! I commented to the owner about the fine quality and work put into these sheets and he said they had found them in boxes and boxes when his mother had passed. She owned the villa at one time, too. He decided it was time to use all her belongings, rather than keep them in a closet. It was one of the nicest decorated places we have stayed at…………I’m gonna enjoy everything I have! Ha Ha!

That’s utterly charming. I decorate specifically for Xmas and Easter and the rest of the time I pick something seasonal but not to the same extent as you.
