This will be my last Doorscursion from Tallinn, Estonia. The medieval Old Town has been a treasure trove of doors! So, let’s start in the Old Town Square and make our way into another old neighborhood! Not everyone has sitting doves!

And I found one here………

But, walking along the Old Town Tower Walls I found some great niches……..and as we will soon see, some were left open, so we could get a look inside these giant, thick walls.

Here’s a look at one of the towers and the ramparts…….

You can see here how the houses butted up to the walls……

There are lots of shops and restaurants with outdoor seating here too…..It’s just a quant little neighborhood…..

We were making our way to a medieval church………where we were greeted by these folks, made from stones and old trees…….

Trees certainly have caused controversy in Tallinn. This tree, outside the church, bothered the people in the building next to the church (they said it blocked their view) So at night the complainers would come out and pour salt at the base of the tree to kill it. The folks at the church would come by every morning and sweep away all the salt. A tit for tat.

The church folks saved the old, old architectural pieces too……

And the inside of this medieval church looked like this…..they brought the old tombstones indoors…….

The concert was made up of music played on old medieval instruments and singers singing the old folksongs. The woman played a hurdy-gurdy.

Back outside we are now looking for some doors! This place reveals how deep the tower walls are………

and some are tunneled down…………

Some had doors that had been removed from other spots……..and were painted pretty fancy.

I liked this door so much, I wanted you to look closer!

Many of these tower shops featured old crafts…….

and some had touristy souvenirs…….

There were even tours of the Tower Walls……….

and some of the steps had a step to it!

Well, we’re like this guy……..we could stay until the cows come home…….but it’s time to return to the ship!

We’ll be on or way to St Petersburg, Russia tonight! See you there!
Look here to see what others are doing for Norm’s Doors!
It’s easy to do Norm’s Doors. Photograph some doors and post them to Thursday Doors on Thursday!
PS All photos were taken on our IPhones …….we are traveling lighter!
I ‘m sorry to say goodbye to Tallin but looking forward to St Petersberg

Delightful sculptures, especially the ducks on the piazza. I don’t know that I’d sit on one, however. Wouldn’t that be disrespectful? And the couple of “human tree” skeletons singing outside the church is quite clever. I like that idea!
