Calling all foodies! This is an invitation to a Gourmet trip to Provence! If you make one foodie trip in France, please go to Cannes! In the historic heart of Cannes is this truly popular and amazing local food and fish market. Since 1934, seasonal products and flowers have been brought into the large covered market. In 2012, the surroundings were also pedestrianized, so you my also visit the shops and terraces that surround the market. It is open every morning except Monday….. You will not be disappointed! It had everything! And it was fun to watch the women shopping as they were very dressed up to go shopping! The French do everything well!

What’s in a Nougat? Nougat can be black or white. It contains honey, nuts (whole, broken, or ground) and/or dried fruits…… And a special ingredient, perfume! The dough is placed between two sheets of unleavened bread. Nougat can be found in countries of the Mediterranean basin, but it’s name, shape and ingredients vary from country to country. The almonds in the French nougat from Montségur, is made from the first almond trees planted in France near Montélimar. This confectionary is very popular throughout the world and remains a Provençal sweetness, that no one can forget once tasted! There are varieties of nougat with different ingredients that come from Spain, Italy, and Morocco. Who knew we could become nougat connoisseurs?

Olive oil anyone?

Or olives, pickled peppers, beans or combinations of ?

Or peaches, plums, bananas and apples?

or maybe a fancy tomato? Don’t you think these are shaped like pumpkins? I do!

and tomatoes all shapes and sizes and colors………..

and peas and strawberries and cucumbers and round zucchini! This zucchini has been re-introduced to Europe and is related to the cucumber, pumpkin, gherkin and melon families……….

The French, Rondes Courgettes, are green or yellow! The yellow ones look like lemons!

and beautiful eggplant!

and there are pastel carrots too!

What a beautiful display of color!

So many, many items to chose from! I’ll post more from this beautiful market tomorrow! See you there!
