WeekendCaféShare: It’s About Extraterrestrials!

Welcome! Come in! Won’t you have a cuppa with me this morning? It’s quite gloomy and overcast out and a perfect day to share my latest adventure with you!

Area 51, The Extraterrestrial Race, YES.FIT

This week I finished my jog of 97.7 miles on the Extraterrestrial Highway in Nevada. That would be the route along SR 375 in Nevada from Warm Springs to Crystal Springs. Let me tell you, there is very little to see on this highway, talk about a desolate spot! And that is for a very good reason. This is Area 51!  Now, like the little green men I was on the highway and yet I was not, let me explain……..

I signed up for this particular Virtual Race…….

I get out in my neighborhood and walk, and walk, and walk, everyday. I average between 7-8 miles per day. So I can get this race done in just under two weeks. Now you could take many months to finish this many miles.  The pace is up to you! It doesn’t matter how long it takes you to finish the miles, once you have finished them, you get the medal or t-shirt or both, depending on what you choose. I wear a watch that tracks my miles and sends the data straight to YES.FIT as soon as I am finished for the day.

When I get home or if I want to, I can look on my phone as I walk, and I can see and follow on the google map, the Route 375 that I am walking on by using the YES.FIT APP.  I can see I am out in the middle of nowhere. I can see the mountains in the distance and I can see that the scenery around me is not much different from the road I am on. Very flat, very dry, and little to no vegetation here.  However, I keep walking and on the google map it shows where I have been and what the road looks like ahead of me. I can see all around me 360 degrees. Then I come to an interactive point. I get a text message that there is something interesting to learn when I get to a certain point. I got my first one at the starting point, telling me about the gas station. It said if I was driving to be sure and fill up on gas, because there would not be any more until I got to the end of the route!  It showed the quirky gas station and the people that run it! Of course, I am jogging, so this does not apply to me, but interesting stuff. It told me to stay alert if I would be traveling at night, since the biggest danger was cows on the highway trying to keep warm by laying on the warm pavement! Truckers have hit them!

Oh, and I was told to look out for alien sightings!

I received many interactive messages along the route, stopping at various quirky restaurants and other establishments, all selling their own special brand of Alien souvenirs or tales!

At one point I came to a little gravel path off the highway that took me as close as I could get to Area 51 and not get shot! What is Area 51 and why is it out here in the middle of nowhere?

The primary purpose was kept secret, but in 2013, following the Freedom of Information Act request filed in 2005, the CIA publicly acknowledged the existence of a  US military base and the history,  documents and purpose of Area 51. It supports the development and testing of experimental aircraft and weapons systems. The intense secrecy surrounding the base has made it a frequent subject of conspiracy theories and UFO folklore. Although the base has never been declared a secret base, all research and occurrences in Area 51 are Top Secret. Hence, if you get too close they will shoot you! So, what else did I learn at my interactive points? I was surprised at the number of credible people, who have reported UFO sightings all over the world.  There was a list of them….. who they were, what they saw when, how it was documented and who did the investigating. Really interesting………..

At another interactive point I learned the twenty most interesting facts about space aliens……My surprise was the US astronaut, Edgar Mitchell, the sixth astronaut to walk on the moon, claims that “outsiders have reached people a few times.” The Lunar Module Pilot guarantees that the government conceals the reality of space aliens from individuals. Studies show that 48 % of the people think there is a secretive administrative department of UFO information in the US government.

I also learned the top 30 Alien Invasion movies, when they were made, as in year, and what they were about. Who knew there were so many?

I also saw the only black box on the highway……a mailbox that was painted black (for black box) then painted white for whatever reason……who would actually live out here was my thought….. It was spooky to me in the day and I cannot imagine it at night! But, I also learned that the mailbox is stolen on a regular basis and the man who needs to get his mail is tired of it.

So when I reached the end of Route 375 I had learned a lot, and exercised a lot and really had an enjoyable time! And then I got the cute medal! Yipee! So, I am off this week on another adventure! Mardi Gras anyone? That is my next race! New Orleans here I come!

If you are interested in getting your fanny off the couch and doing some kind of interactive exercising check out the Virtual Runs at YES.FIT. The themed races come in varied distances  from around the world! You chose!

Well I’ll leave you with a parting thought, “Is that an alien sighting over my morning coffee?”

Did you see any wild horses on your morning walk? That is what I love the most about Nevada, all the horses. I often go there just to see them. I actually worked at a big ranch in Nevada for about a year, a couple years ago. I also lived in Reno for a while. I love the wide open spaces, and the smell of sage. Enjoy your weekend 🙂

  3. That sounds like a lot of fun. I’ll see if we can get that it Australia. I do a lot of walking but as my route is the same this would create an interesting diversion. Look forward to New Orleans. Thanks for coffee.
