We are saying goodbye to Mainz, but before we go, let’s see a few more doors!
They certainly like pink here!
Or a shade of rosy-pink!
Even the trees are rosy pink!
Many buildings and doors are pink trimmed!
And many have the sign of the cross on them!
There is the Mainz Cathedral here and many other churches as well. I’ll save my photos of the churches for another day. But, I had to show the pink stone in this church!
Well, I think it is time for a meal….. let’s see what is in the cava!
Pork knuckle anyone? So, so good!
And you can see there are other listings on the menu as well, but pork knuckle is their specialty!
Sitting next to this gentleman gave us a start……. The hair is real hair!!!!!!!
For those not into the hair thing just drink yourselves through this!
And to end our stay in Mainz, the door of the Gutenberg Museum, one of the oldest museums of printing in the world, was another great find in Mainz! No photos were allowed inside, but it was a very interesting museum.
It is located opposite the cathedral in the old part of Mainz. It is named after Johannes Gutenberg , the inventor of printing from moveable metal type in Western Europe. The collections include printing equipment and examples of printed materials from many cultures. It also features two Gutenberg Bibles.
A group of citizens founded the museum in 1900, five hundred years after Johannes Gutenberg’s birth, to honor the inventor and present his technical and artistic achievements to the public at large. They also aimed to exhibit the writing and printing of as many different cultures as possible. What a great find!

Love these captures of beautiful Mainz, especially the first one, because you have both the arch and the renaissance building with the round tower in there. I don’t know how I feel about a painting with real hair…but a visit to the Gutenberg museum would certainly be appreciated by me!

I didn’t think you could wow me any more than I already was after your previous posts on Mainz … but you cranked it up several notches!!
– the beautiful door with the great round window overtop
– that wonderful white tower trimmed in red!! … and it has 4 little turrets!!
– the door with the large cross doorknocker in the centre
All of them give me reasons to plan another trip to Germany with Mainz on the list!
