WeekendCaféShare: I Think We Might Need a Boat!

Good Morning!!!!! Ah! The sun is shining again! I was beginning to think I saw Noah and the Boat on the horizon! My poor plants have been drowning in water, but I know it will be hot, hot, hot now and within a few days time they will be thirsty again! So there won’t be any pictures of the garden this week! Let’s go sit for our chat in the back garden by the grill. I have had nothing but grilling ideas now for about a week. I planned to cook out this weekend and didn’t want to have to do it in the rain! I can’t get Grilled Mojito Lime Chicken with peppers and rice off my mind to be specific! We have a new butcher in town, well the only butcher actually! We have a local farmers’ market that sets up their booths in our “only town parking lot,” every Saturday. I don’t go as much any more. It is too chaotic. There is nowhere to park and our little town area of a block or so is inundated with people darting here and there. In addition to that our state government has decided that the one major highway that runs parallel to our village is now being re-constructed to be a toll road!!!! So everyone is trying to get off that road, which is mainly a parking lot now for miles, to use the “back roads”  to get to their destinations. So it is bumper to bumper on our one street thoroughfare. Sheesh! Well, back to the butcher……… who was originally at the town market every week, and has set up a permanent shop in a new location near the entrance to the new “Toll Road” exit. We have a small plaza-like area at that exit with new apartments built there as well. His location is a shop below the apartments. I would never have looked there for a butcher shop and the parking area consists of a few “back-in only” parking spots! I don’t know if I would want an apartment over the butcher shop either, but hey that just may be me. I think I will just walk over there from the parking lot at the grocery store and forgo the back-in parking. It’s a good thing I love that butcher’s goods!

Gee, the rain must have been getting to me, I seem a little salty this morning! Would you like another cup of coffee? How about some lemon pound cake with lemon frosting? That should make us feel better! You can find the recipe HERE!

Lemon Pound Cake

How was your week? Have you read any good books? I am reading the third book in the Thomas Berrington Historical Series. It meets my criteria for learning something about my destination before I go on vacation (this time to Spain) and it has been a series of mysteries which I love AND Thomas Berrington is an English doctor working for the Sultan in Moorish Spain in the late 1400’s. So lots of details of medical procedures and how they were done then! Oh My! Have you tried the Amazon’s Kindle Unlimited Books? I love it! For $9.99 a month you read books that you pick out among thousands. You can choose as many as ten books at a time, but after that you must return one to pick a new one, so you can have a max total of ten at one time. It is great for the ferocious reader! You can find the Thomas Berrington Series on there!

Well, that is all for this week! I promise next week to start on my Travel Tips! That has kept me busy as well! See you next Saturday!

This is part of the #Weekend Coffee Share! I think it is great having coffee with all of you! It is hosted by Nerd in the Brain!  Be sure to link up so you can see what everyone else is saying over coffee!

  4. Thanks for coffee and delicious cake. I live in close proximity to a baker and coffee roaster. The smells are divine and great for easy access to good product. I wonder what smells might come from a butchers shop. Amazon unlimited sounds amazing – like a library. I had seen it but never bothered to find out more but after your explanation might join up myself. Glad the weather has improved.

    1. Oh, I could handle the bakery and the coffee aromas for certain! The butchering not so much! Yes, I can never read enough books and Kindle Unlimited is great!

Yes, it is great to learn about your destination before you go on a trip.

    1. I think it adds to the excitement of the trip; knowing something about the people and places of your next adventure even if it was in the 1400’s! Reveals how the country developed one way or the other and the influence the people had on it!

Same here. It’s raining now. One thing I will say though, everything is really green and lush.

Thanks for the coffee and scrumptious slice of lemon cake. I have a bag of lemons in the fridge and plan to make lemon butter. Or, perhaps even lemon meringue pie.
I like the sound of Grilled Mojito Lime Chicken. I’ve been making Thai Chicken burgers and then have a nice lime overtone. It’s Masterchef season here and my cooking always improves out of sight during the series, mixing all sorts of exciting ingredients. Yum!

Rain has made it to my list of four letter words. Our campsite this holiday was completely flooded so Soggy was the theme. 😦 The pound cake looks delish!!! Thanks for the coffee, hope things calm down in your town. I’d love Kindle Unlimited but I don’t have enough time to read to make it worthwhile. I did finally get my mitts on Stephen King’s Joyland, and I’m hooked! Have a great week!

    1. I think the road situation will be a long time coming! It has been going on for 1 1/2 years already and will be another 3 at least! OMG! Being retired lets me read a lot of books! I’ll keep a heads up on your latest camping adventures!
