WeekendCaféShare: It’s All About the Shoes!

My New Tieks!

If we were having coffee this morning I would invite you in for a nice french press. I have been so behind this week with my blogging. But, there is a good reason….. it’s all because I decided to clean out my dresser drawers. I was a whirlwind, well not actually, because I didn’t go very fast, but I was very efficient! Everything that has not been worn in the last year went into the Goodwill bags. It’s just amazing how clothes accumulate in those chest of drawers! You would think that I am a big clothes shopper, but you would be wrong. I just hate to get rid of anything! Well, the one bit of advice I can give you when doing spring cleaning is, “Don’t start unless you want to get it all done!” One thing leads to another. Once those chest of drawers looked so good I decided to start in on the closets!

Did I mention I bought new shoes? That might be what really set me off. I love shoes, but I don’t get rid of them either. Over the last few years I have had trouble with arthritis in my knee and  arthritis in my big toe. When walking it is a trade off as to what hurts worse. But, the toe problem has reduced the wearing of some of my beautiful shoes! I can’t wear anything that is a slip on because the top of the shoe usually comes right across the joint of my big toe and Wow ZA! Or anything wedgy or stylish, puts such pressure on my toe, because it is continually bent, that I limp after a few minutes! So, whenever I went out during the winter I wore a very comfortable black, light-weight, Nike! I am so tired of that shoe! Who wants to wear that all summer? What was I going to wear on the cruise? I couldn’t wear Nikes with a fancy dress now could I? So I started investigating shoes. And then I ordered a pair of Tieks, because they had such great reviews and they came in such great inspiring colors. I bought Matte Black…. not very inspiring, but I knew they would go with everything! Tieks look like ballerina slippers and are hand-made in Italian leather. They slipped across my  toe joint and I had no pain. I walked in them and no pain. They molded to my foot.  They fit me perfectly! My toe didn’t hurt. My heel didn’t hurt, there was no rubbing.  My knee said, “I think I can walk!”  Hmmmm….this may be too good to be true. So I ordered more to make sure this was not a fluke… after I cleaned out my entire closet, and threw away half of my clothes and grouped the remaining clothes into color schemes. Let’s see, I could use Lilac shoes, Taupe shoes, Chocolate shoes, Metallic Pewter shoes, Mustard shoes, Chestnut shoes, Camel shoes and my favorite, and only available during Poppy season,  while supplies last, Poppy! Every woman should have one pair of red shoes! Trust me! They make you feel like you can do anything!

Then I went to the shoe closet! Oh, I went to town on that baby! My next bit of advice is not to clean out a clothing or shoe closet when your hubby is home. Men ALWAYS think you have enough clothes or shoes no matter what!  I am seventy, and I have a wonderful husband, who still rolls his eyes when I mention shoes.  I know what he is thinking! How can I possibly need shoes! I have to admit I had shoes in boxes that had only been worn a short, short, short time when I realized my days for the fancy dancing shoes were over. Some had only been worn once and then went back in the box. I took twelve boxes of new shoes to Goodwill and twelve lawn-leaf sized bags of clothes and you guessed it, more shoes! Now my closets look rather tame and lame! But, I got some new Tieks! Did I tell you they also fold? That they fold up and fit in a tiny, tiny bag that they provide?  I think they do this on purpose. This is the shoe for those with husbands that think you already own too many shoes! I think this is excellent on two fronts. First of all, I can take several colors of shoes on the cruise because they are light and fold up into nothing at all for a shoe, and secondly you could easily hide them in your closet so it doesn’t look like you have replenished your shoes all in one day! So I’m in a pretty good mood right now! I may swirl into town with my Poppy shoes on!

And More Tieks!
My Lilac Tieks Folded

So if you were here having coffee with me this morning I would invite you to look at my closets! Unbelievable I say! Also, I was thinking that if I die this week people will say what awesome organized closets and dressers I had. Ha Ha! Not too much to carry out there! Have another cup of coffee? What size shoe do you wear? Want to try them on? Looks at all these colors of Tieks! I may have to have the snake looking ones too! Aren’t they wonderful?  Look for yourself  at the Boutiek!

So let’s hear all about your week! I love hearing from all of you on Saturday morning! See you next week!

PS,  I booked all the cruise excursions this week too. The first day to do it was last Sunday and I got up at 7AM to get my digs in! Don’t you know some of the trips were full already? I should have got up at midnight I guess! I forgot the folks in Europe would be hours ahead of me! The Flamingo, oops Flamenco Dancers excursion was completely  full.  I hadn’t signed up for that, but SBS did. I may just have to do a stamping, whirling dance for him with a rose in my teeth and wearing my bright Poppy shoes! Ole!

I love comfy shoes and I love ballet flats. Got to get me a red pair, though, if they’re as powerful as you say. 🙂

Oh, I love shoes too and these look so comfy! I mainly wear all leather boots, which are getting really hard to find these days. I have such a narrow foot, I can’t just buy any old shoe. I hardly ever wear tennis shoes, as I mostly wear skirts and dresses. May have to try these on sometime and see how they feel. Have a great weekend!

I would love shoes like that if they made them in extra wide. I gave up a long time ago on shoes. One shoe salesman once said I could get my little toe cut off. I almost cried. I need to do another spring clean too.

He thought he was funny. I didn’t. A lifetime of never finding shoes to fit well makes me sensative. Comfort is important. Glad you found a solution.

  4. I wear shoes only when I leave home. I can’t find shoes that actually fix. I have used the same shoe now for several years when it gone I am not sure what I will do.

Kudos to you for cleaning out your closet and drawers. That is a major task and one that I am desperately needing to do as well. The Tieks look so comfortable!

Yes… Kudos to you on the purging of the closets. I vow to do that when I return from my week of fun in the sun… Which I now know I can truly enjoy as I received my passport today! Woot!
Those shoes look wonderful. I would have to try one as I worry there is absolutely no heel. My podiatrist made me orthotics for my working shoes and included a little heel… hmmm.
Only one way to find out!
Have a great week! See ya’all in two as I shall miss the next coffee share!
