WeekendCaféShare: Ye Gads It’s AWFUL!

The Old and New Me

If we were having coffee this morning you would remember that last week I was bemoaning the wait for my new passport and the dilemma of white hair. Come in, come in, you have to hear this story! Do you want coffee or tea this morning? I think I still have some of that Irish blend from yesterday and some St Patrick’s Day cookies. We might as well finish them off! If you’re here for lunch we’ll polish off the corned beef brisket and cabbage too! Well, as would have it, I got my passport last Saturday afternoon. What are they thinking? The State Department I mean. Look at my passport! The two-inch photo with the white background was blown up to fill the entire two inches all the way around with my face and they colored in my hair!! Doesn’t it look like they used a yellow colored pencil or crayon? SBS says they make all the photos into holograms now to make it harder to counterfeit the passports. That’s why my blown up face looks so contorted, it’s in 3-D now.  Since my real hair (the white hair) doesn’t show up, someone colored it in yellow, but my big fluffy hair was just edged in the photo! Oh, and doesn’t that big slice out of my forehead look rather odd too? No one looks like this!!! It’s almost comical! Almost! And to top it off they added wavy horizontal lines all across my face! I am going to get a lot of repeat strange looks with this passport!

OK, I’m over it now, it is what it is. But, I will hate pulling out that passport for inspection, I tell you! Excuse my poor artwork, but I wanted to show you dear, Saturday morning, coffee drinkers what I now look like on my new passport! At least, now that I have a new passport I can sign up to eat at the various restaurants on the cruise!

What else have I been doing this week? Let’s see. Not much apparently, nothing comes to mind. Everyone’s in Florida for Spring Break and we have been freezing our patooty’s off here!  I haven’t even read a good book! The books seem to go in spurts. Lots of good ones at once and then a dry spell.

I have worked sporadically in the garden on warmer days. I cut back some of the taller shrubs. I can’t wait to go to the nursery. I will go on the first warm, sunshiney day, like everyone else. I like the frenzy.  I have decided to pull out three dwarf light-pink shrub roses in my formal garden. One is doing alright, the other two not so much! I took a photo of the area and I am open to suggestions. I want something bold there, something that makes a statement. Preferably in purple or lavender.  The purple ground cover is not covering the ground like it did. I find it has to be replaced about every three to four years. It must get tired of grounding.

The Purple Ground Cover

I have waited to pull my big pots out of the garage.

One of the Lavender Pots

They contain varieties of lavender and different ferns. I like to place them around and about in spots in the garden, but I knew it was too early for this, so I waited. I am also thinking of putting a lot more hellebores in the Woodland Garden. Now I have them on one side and they grow so well there. The deer don’t eat them either and that is a plus. Maybe I’d better get a move on or the hellebores will be sold out. Do any of you garden? I have a cottage garden and always go to the nursery in the Spring and Fall and bring back lots of goodies. I can’t help myself! I always think there is room for one more plant, don’t you? I like candles in the garden too.  I like them in various jars I have saved and then set them on the stone path.

My Cottage Garden

I have decided to get rid of my large teak outdoor table with the umbrella and go with the smaller one instead. I’m just tired of that big table taking up so much room.

So, there will be plenty to do in the garden if it ever warms up again! I’ll save pictures for you to see my progress! Well that’s about all for this week! I’d like to hear about your gardens, or books you are reading, or any of your adventures! See you next Saturday!

This is part of the #Weekend Coffee Share! I think it is great having coffee with all of you! It is hosted by Nerd in the Brain!  Be sure to link up so you can see what everyone else is saying over coffee!

  2. I didn’t think it was so funny, but I’ll get over it! Ha Ha! It’s always something! Thanks for the compliment on the garden! It is just the right size for me!

  3. Passport photographs and driver’s license photographs, mine always look horrible or like a mug shot. It is such a regular occurrence that I have to find humour in it. Your cottage garden stone path is stunning! “Life is simple: eat, sleep, and garden.” – ? I would add, don’t forget coffee!

    Great post, thanks for sharing.

Sounds just terrible about your passport. When I went to have my daughter’s picture taken for her passport a few years ago, the post office took the picture and then we sent everything in. About a month later, the picture got sent back to us saying it wasn’t good enough. So I ended up taking my daughter’s picture at home and then we submitted that one. Funny, they accepted that one no problem! Go figure… Lol…
Also, I really do love your garden. I know who I’ll be coming to for advice from now on! 😉

I book binge, too. I feel a binge coming on, in fact, after several weeks of not reading.

I love lavender…. *sniffffffffffffff* one of my all-time faves. Lovely garden.

What beautiful flowers you have in your garden. I, unfortunately, do not have a garden and often enjoy the sights of other people’s gardens as I walk on the sidewalks.

How could they color your hair? Isn’t that like falsifying information?? Wow. LOVE your garden, thank you for sharing!!! I want to do pots this year and loved seeing how they look.. I want to be able to move things around and not dig up a permanent spot in my yard. I will be planting basil, cilantro, jalapenos and green onions. And I’d love to plant berries. Have a great week!

    1. Hi Kathleen, I think they colored my hair because white is not an option they offer!!!! The way the photo turns out if your hair is white with a white background is you look hairless! So that is why I think they colored it in. I did a vegetable plot one year in the rented church plots for gardening. I wrote some posts about it, but anyway, I had so much of everything, I clearly didn’t know about vegetables, especially lettuce. I grow herbs in pots because they spread like wildfire everywhere and in pots I can contain them. This year I might add some tomatoes to my pots. When I lived in Texas cilantro grow as grass there, absolutely love it!

  9. Loved your post and your pasport story! Don’t despair! Passport photos are always terrible! Also love your pictures. Beautiful. I seem to have lost interest in gardening along with everything else domestic. Great post. Really enjoyed it!

I was thinking of you as I was getting my photo taken at Costco for MY passport… I even told the woman taking my picture about your conundrum! I cannot believe they coloured in your hair! What the heck???
I love your garden. So beautiful. Inspiring, even. Maybe this year I’ll do something extra. I want to sell my house in the next few years… a little added beauty should help…
